Telecommunications: Stakeholders updated on regulatory techniques

The Telecommunications Regulatory Board TRB has organised a four-day sensitisation workshop on how to apply regulatory procedures for the use of radio frequencies in Cameroon.

This year’s seminar is taking place in Douala and it is an occasion for eighty participants from the Littoral, North West, South West and the West Regions to evaluate Telecommunications Regulatory Board`s management and suggest ways to improve telecommunication services in the country.

Some of the complaints from the customers according to the Technical Adviser Number 3, Francois Kamga included problems on registration formalities, delays in allocating frequencies, high subscription cost and frequent frequency clashes.

Raymond Ayene, Sub-Director in Charge of Administrative Frequency Management regretted the fact that many subscribers do not observe the rules and regulations governing the sector in the country.

Given frequent reports of illegal means of getting the radio frequencies, the Sub- Director said a fine of five to 250 million FCFA or one-five years imprisonment has been instituted to punish defaulters.

Conditions required to set up an electronic communication sector in Cameroon includes presenting authorisation, proof of equipment and list of experienced engineers and technicians.

On an important note, the Telecommunications Regulatory Board has been managing the spectrum in Cameroon since its creation in 1999.
