The accident occurred at 5:30 am when a taxi with registration number CE 904 DL transporting petit traders fondly called “Bayam- sellam” left for the Mokolo Market.
Driving on a very high speed, the taxi attempted to dodge an oncoming vehicle from the opposite direction. Unable to totally master the vehicle due to the speed, the taxi got buried under a stationed truck matriculated CE 602 CD that was also wrongly packed. In spite of the painstaking intervention of eyewitnesses, the tragedy could not be overturned.
Two passengers including the driver died on the spot and two survivors were dragged out of the vehicle after the taxi had been axed to pieces. The latest occurrence has ignited debate and as expected the blame game begins. Some affirm the absence of street lights facilitated the tragedy.
Others blame the accident on the haphazard way in which trucks and other vehicles are packed on the streets. But arguably, the most plausible argument is the fact that the driver was on high speed and could not gain full control of the vehicle when he sensed danger.
