Toko council is waxing strong-Mayor

Toko is one of the nine sub divisions that make up Ndian Division in the South West Region, with the occupation of the people predominantly Agriculture.

During the Installation of the 20th SDO for Ndian Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin by the Governor of the South West Region Bernard Okilai Bilai at the heavy attended occasion at the Mundemba grandstand, the Lord Mayor of this Council,Menye Divine Nekenoa, took time off at the sidelines of the events to express to THE SUN, his challenges within his seven months that he has being in office.

Hear him "it has not a bed of roses since I was elected into office as Mayor of Toko Council under the CPDM ticket."

Though the Council is Waxing strong now, the Mayor hinted, its important, he went on, to let the world and his electorates known that, he inherited, much debts and three months accrued salaries.

He boasted that he has being able to clear about 75% of the debts and most especially that the council staffs have no cause for alarm, as all their arrears salaries have been paid.

The Mayor averred that when he took over office, he immediately swung into action.

With the enclavement of the area he made visibility studies, and refurbished the council chambers, his office and those of the Deputy Mayors, which were an eyesore, reignited the hygiene and sanitation spirit of the municipality and planted flows in the area.

As a development partner to the Council, through his foresightedness he lobbied and the Senator of Ndian came to their assistant.

She dole to the council the Mayor observed 200 palm seedlings for the council to enhance the council plantation.

Also about 1000 plantain, and 2200 cocoa yam sucker was equally handed to council and the council went ahead to plant yams carrots,maize,which the council is currently harvesting now and marketing to raise revenue for the council.

This council farms the Mayor said has offered employment to the youths in the area.

FCFA 397million Budget

For the current financial year, the Mayor disclosed that FCFA 397 million, was budgeted for the council was balance in income and expenditure and boosted that about 65% of the budget have already been recovered.

The Mayor’s main worry now is the construction of a bridge that link Toko town to other neigbouring villages in the municipality.

He however remained optimistic this dream will be realized.He opined visibility studies have being concluded to this effect and FCFA 15miilion from the Council coffers will play the magic in no distant time.

As for his relationship with other development partners like FEICOM, and PNDP,the Mayor explained that while his current making moves to approach FEICOM and PNDP, he equally doff his hands to the authorities of PNDP,for the efforts they are doing to assist council.

He disclosed that recently PNDP, 120 benches, 2 tables, 7chairs and 6 cupboards to four schools in the council area.

Like Oliver Twist, Mayor Menye Divine, asked the government to answer their cry which is that of roads, roads and roads.
