Transport ministry gives taxi drivers more freedom

The Minister of Transport has signed a decision that allows taxis to drive out of their registration area into towns and neighbouring sub-divisions.

According to Minister Robert Nkili, the decision was necessary owing to the fact that there has been a rapid increase in the rate of urbanisation leading to traffic congestion.

The decision according to him does not alter the normal law that prohibits taxi drivers from cross-driving from one Sub-Division to another.

Taxi drivers warmly welcomed the change which has now permitted them to drive out of their registration area into towns in neighbouring sub Divisions.

Passengers on their part embraced the decision as they will now have to save time and money by taking a single drop instead of two or more to their various destinations.

The decision comes barely few weeks to the festive period.
