The Regional Delegate of Transport for the South West Region while congratulating his colleagues for remaining committed and hard working as they heeded to calls from media reports to intensify road safety campaigns within the Region.
Ivo Vevanje was speaking recently in Kumba, Chief Town of Meme Division, while presiding at a coordination meeting that brought together all the Divisional Delegates, Regional Chiefs of Service and other transport stakeholders within the Region.
The meeting was aimed at taking stock of the 2nd quarter activities of the sector, examining the challenges they encounter and map out strategies for a better way forward.
The delegate however regretted the fact that ever since the quarterly meeting started the Fako Divisional Delegate has not bothered to be part of what ”the family” have come together to achieve.
That notwithstanding, he insisted that the other delegates should make sure all the vehicles plying the highways respect the highway code and have the necessary car documents.
He used the platform to honour the Meme Transport Boss HRH Chief Njilah Isaiah Tata, for his contributions in righting the wrongs of vehicle owners in the Division. He however noted that, he understands it’s a herculean task for others following their reports, but recommended that education is the key to success, reason why he urged them to add more impetus in their sensitization strategy.
The regional transport Boss used the event to congratulate the forces of law and order for always standing by them during the road safety campaigns, and observed that the Administration should be considered as a partner in development, not an enemy.
According to the Regional Chief of Service in charge of Railway services, he revealed that it has been difficult for him to have statistics from the lone Railway axis in the Region which is the Kumba-Mbanga axis.
He however hinted that the services have been improved. The host delegate, HRH Chief Njilah Isaiah Tata, disclosed that much has been achieved within the short time he has been at the delegation. Much revenue has been collected, with the latest being about FCFA 700.000, which he pumped into the treasurer just for a week.
He narrated that there is too much intervention from the powers that be, but that notwithstanding things are improving.He said that he desired the indulgence of the Regional Delegate to channel his worries over the creation of a Driving Test Unit, visit technique units in the division, for statistics to show that the division has many more vehicles in the Region leaving for Limbe for the purpose is uncalled for.
This has led to the prevalence of fake documents in the Division. The meeting ended with the next rendezvous billed for Mamfe in September 2014.
