Truck crushes policeman, gendarme outside Garoua

The Inspector of Police, Abdul and Marechal Madina Alphonse were crushed to death at a joint checkpoint just outside the town of Garoua.

Two people including a policeman and a gendarme were killed this Friday, December 12, 2014 at a checkpoint in Benue.

A truck from Ngaoundere trying to overtake a motorcycle carrying two officers rather dragged it several meters before mounting it. The police inspector Abdul, GMI number 4 of Garoua and Marechal Madina Alphonse of Brigade Boklé in the borough of Garoua 3, were flattened by the said truck that was traveling at a high-speed.

According to friends of the two officers, Abdul and Alphonse went to Boklé around noon to find food after spending all morning in the position of the control. "The truck picked them on their bikes as they were returning from their lunch from Boklé" says a colleague. "You cannot explain how the driver of the truck was traveling at that speed on a curve which opens directly onto our joint checkpoint. Our two comrades were killed on that turn. You know when the end of the year approaches many things happen that are beyond our understanding," continues the colleague.

The mutilated bodies of the two officers have been deposited at the morgue of the Garoua Regional hospital and the driver of the truck was taken into custody at the Brigade Boklé where an investigation has been opened.
