Two dead babies found in Tongolo,Yaounde

Two corpses of new-born babies were found in Tongolo, a Yaounde neighbourhood, on Thursday May 22, 2014 in Yaounde. The bodies were found in separate places in the area early on that fateful day. One of the bodies was found around the Tongolo junction; precisely behind Pharmacie Tongolo while the other behind the former terminal of BINAM Voyages.

Reports say the body of a new-born baby was discovered on the banks of the River Mfoundi at about 5:30 a.m. by some residents who were about to fetch water from a nearby well. One of the residents, Marie Louise O, said the baby was full term and that the mother must have forced the delivery. She said when the body was discovered the neighbours immediately informed the National Fire-fighting Brigade and the Police.

The body was removed from the water by the fire fighters and was later buried by the banks of the river by the inhabitants of the area. Some of the neighbours held that the dead body was probably thrown in the river at night when people were asleep. As at press time, no suspect had yet been identified.

Still in the same neighbourhood, a foetus was equally discovered on the other side of the river not far from the first without any trace of the person who abandoned it. However, police investigations are going on to find the criminals.
