On April 6, the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde welcomed several candidates for the Tech Women program.
They came from several regions of Cameroon with a commitment to apply for the program and make a difference at home in Cameroon upon their return from the U.S. Welcoming them, Public Affairs Officer Roberto Quiroz II told them: “You are all already winners whether you are selected or not.
We have other programs you may consider as well. You arrived here after already achieving great goals and with the hopes of attaining even greater accomplishments for your fellow citizens.
As President Obama has said, and Ambassador Hoza has reiterated right here in Cameroon, it is one of the United States’ highest foreign policy priorities to partner with African and Cameroonian youth to support your endeavors and to promote development through your own immense talents and contributions, especially those from women and girls. As you progress along your journey, know that the United States of America stands with you. On est ensemble!”
The mission of TechWomen is to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing them access and opportunity to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and become role models for women and girls in their communities.
