U.S. Offers Fellowships to ENAM Students

A public lecture held in the school on Hubert Humphrey and J.W Fulbright programmes.

Students and graduates of the Yaounde National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) have been challenged to seize existing opportunities offered by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S Embassy in Cameroon and have their careers developed academically and professionally.

The Technical Adviser at ENAM, Marie Asa'a Mambo, made the remark on November 8, 2013 in Yaounde at a public lecture that brought hundreds of ENAM students together. Asa'a Mambo noted that the Hubert Humphrey programme will enable students acquire additional skills in the U.S needed for excelling nationally and internationally.

"We realized that most students are not aware of the programme. Reason why we partnered with the U.S Embassy for a lecture so as to expose ENAM students to such opportunities," she said. Based on the theme, "Preparing a successful Hubert Humphrey Fellowship application," students were drilled on how to apply for the fellowship. They were told that the Humphrey Fellowship was a non-degree programme that brings outstanding mid-career professionals from developing countries to the U.S for a year of professional development and academic work.

The leadership programme, according to the Cultural Affairs Assistant at the U.S Embassy, Gerald Chilla, speaker at the event, trains leaders and is good for career building and the growth of a country. He said the programme also comes to strengthen mutual ties between the U.S and Cameroon. He expressed hope that by so doing, they are helping to prepare leaders for President Paul Biya's 2035 Vision.

According to the programme, one man can make a difference and change should come from each one, not waiting for society to change. But if we can change, it is possible and easier to bring other people around us to change, Gerald Chilla said. Preliminary applications for the scholarships are available on U.S Embassy website at http://yaounde.usembassy.gov.
