Of the 85 admitted in 2006 as pioneer batch of medical doctors in training in the University of Buea (UB), 53 finally graduated last 15 December, 2012, named "Batch of Hope". The Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Cameroon State Universities was represented in Buea by UB's Pro-Chancellor, Professor Maurice Tchuente.

The UB - trained Medical doctors swelled the total number of graduates from six Faculties of UB to 3.406. These were celebrated during their 17th convocation last Saturday. The convocation is an Anglo-Saxon university fanfare to mark academic achievements. On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of UB, Dr. Nalova Lyonga, explained that two-thirds of the total graduates this year earned within first and second class honours. The Vice Chancellor used this year's convocation to thank Buea's Municipality Mayor Mbella Moki Charles for recently clearing the University vicinity of the rowdy and drunkening off-licenses thereby rendering the milieu a purely studious one.

The sum of FCFA 3 million from Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, meant for UB's endowment fund, was announced and shown in cash to the applause of the audience at the UB's open-air amphi. Professor Tchuente announced that UB benefitted some 100 new lecturers from the 25.000 recently recruited into the civil service. It was also informed that UB had contracted the building of some 2.500 bed spaces for in-campus lodging, a project to be realised incessantly.

The 2012 best graduating student of UB was Neba Fabrice Abunde who bagged a first class honours in Biochemistry with a GPA of 3.74 on a scale of 4. In his valedictory address, Abunde explained to his peers that it was not a matter of being more intelligent than others but the discipline of being at the right place at the right time leaving no stone unturned.
