UB Vice Chancellor Briefs Press On HTTTC Kumba

The presentation came five days after the tenth insitute of the University of Buea was created by President Paul Biya.

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Buea (UB), Nalova Lyonga Ph.D, has announced that the staff of her institution is working round the clock to ensure a hitch-free take off for the newly created Higher Technical Teachers' Training College (HTTTC) in Kumba come next September, 2014.

The boss of UB was briefing the press, 12 March, at their boardroom about the new College created by Presidential decree last 7 March. The new College is part of UB and based in Kumba, Meme Divisional capital situated some kilometres from the Mother University's seat in the regional capital, Buea.

Although Nalova Lyonga remained cautious avoiding clear-cut statements as to the location of HTTTC site in Kumba, admission statistics, dates and procedure; she was upbeat that all challenges inherent to every beginning would be braved to enable the Head of States' gift properly nursed.

She said it is a College that fills a gap, strengthens technical institutions and builds up the general economy. The VC assured that all instructions from the Minister of Higher Education about the new College shall be followed to make the new Teachers' College enjoy the standards known of UB. She drew attention to article three of the decree creating HTTTC Kumba, which states that administrative, academic and other functional modalities are secured by specific texts of the President of the Republic.

The new College in Kumba brings to ten the number of establishments that UB now operates since inception in 1993. According to a calendar of activities signed by the Vice Chancellor on March 3, 2014, this year's convocation has been prolonged to 22 March. In preparation, the University Council has been fixed for March 20, 2014 and lectures for the second semester will resume on 24 March. Their Senate meeting is slated for 31 March.
