Cameroon has been trying to expand its travel and tourism sector and has been considered, and parts of the country are still considered, a safe travel and tourism destination.
Lonely planet says about Cameroon: Cameroon is Africa's throbbing heart, a crazed, sultry mosaic of active volcanoes, white sand beaches, thick rainforest and magnificent parched landscapes broken up by the bizarre rock formations of the Sahel.
The travel and tourism industry in this country is now facing big challenges in regards to safety and security. The Boko Haram terror organization from Nigeria is suspected of kidnapping some 80 people in Cameroon on Jan. 18, military officials said. This was reported by Reuters.
Many of the abducted are children. Several people were killed in the attack, which originated from northeastern Nigeria. Boko Haram has expanded its territorial ambitions and has recently staged several attacks in Cameroon.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against all travel to the Bakassi Peninsula, and to within 40km of the borders with Chad and Nigeria’s Adamawa state in Cameroon's North and Adamaoua provinces.
All but essential travel is warned against to the rest of the North and Adamaoua provinces. Travelers should check with your relevant national government.
