UPC commemorates Ruben Um Nyobe

Ruben Um Nyobe was shot by the French army in the village of Libel-li-Ngoy, in the center of the country, September 13, 1958. His mistake had been to formulate, the first, a political project for the emancipation of the Cameroonian people.

Disappeared at the age of 45 years, Um Nyobe claimed very early of "modalities of access to independence in a reasonable future" for his country.

He was one of the founders of the Union of the peoples of Cameroon (UPC) May 10, 1948. Fed to the times of ancestral traditions, asceticism Presbyterian and communist influences, this great orator was the first Cameroonian to express himself to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 1952.

In order to pay tribute to him, Saturday September 13, 2014, UPC organized activities to Liege in Belgium. The activists of this political party wanted to remind all the vision of the first secretary-general of this political party of the opposition.

For them, Ruben Um Nyobe tried to develop a political body, only qualified to represent the people of Cameroon with the goals of group and unite the inhabitants of the territory with a view to allow the accession of the populations of Cameroon to the formation of a federation by the achievement of a political program of rapid democratization and empowerment of populations exploited by colonial trusts and by the elevation of their standard of living".

According to the program of the UPC, the manifestations of the commemoration began saturday, September 13 in Liege in Belgium.
