US Emb. honours exceptional teacher

On September 2, the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé welcomed Mr. Alfred Yeran Chilla, an elementary School Teacher from the Ecole Publique de Alpha in Rey Bouba in the Northern Region of Cameroon to donate over 100 English and French school books for use by students.

Mr. Chilla discussed his profession as an elementary school teacher and outlined efforts by his pupils and colleagues in Northern Cameroon to strengthen education. “We are a pilot school and each month we visit one of the seven other public and community initiated schools that rely on our school for pedagogic support and guidance.

We see on the faces of pupils their determination to earn an education, and this encourages us to serve them each day. Because they inspire us through their desire to learn, we persevere as a team of teaching professionals and use our resources to educate hundreds of students. We are thankful to the American Embassy for supporting schools in rural communities like ours.” Mr. Chilla added.

Mr. Quiroz presented Mr. Chilla with the book “The National Parks of America” by Michael Brett. In their discussion, he underscored the United States’ commitment to promote development through education by noting: “As Ambassador Michael S. Hoza has said, one of the United States’ highest priorities in Cameroon is to promote education, especially for women and girls.

Attaining a quality education is essential for reaching individual goals and for promoting development in all nations through the contributions of citizens. An education is earned through perseverance, hard work, and dedication.

Teaching professionals throughout the world provide lifetime gifts to students: knowledge and the inspiration to dream of a greater future.

Teachers build the foundation of people’s lives. We congratulate you and your fellow Cameroonian teachers for choosing to serve in one of the noblest and most dedicated of professions.”
