Um Nyobé’s statue to be erected in Douala

The announced monument rises over 2.10 m and weighs 170 kg, according to the initiators of this project. It is made in bronze and brass.

September 13, 2014 Cameroonian Patriots and collective memory celebrate the 56th anniversary of the murder of Ruben Um Nyobè, Secretary-General of the Union of the peoples of Cameroon.

On this occasion, a group of young patriots gathered in a so-called Amish Arts organization, under the leadership of a certain André - Blaise Essama decided to erect a monument in memory of the national hero whose traces are barely visible across the country. There is certainly a street dedicated to him in Douala, which begins from the crossroads of the Brasseries du Cameroun at carrefour Nkongmondo.

August 11, 2014, Amish Arts spokesman, André-Blaise Essama wrote to the Minister of Culture and Arts and the delegate of the Government at the Douala urban Community.

The purpose of correspondence: seek a visible site, preferably in the public garden at Place du gouvernement in Bonanjo or in the gardens of the salle des fêtes of Akwa for implanting the statue of one of the martyrs of the independence of Cameroon. He wished for the celebrations of the anniversary of the assassination of Ruben Um Nyobè come September 13.

It should be noted that this event is situated within the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first martyrs of the defence of Cameroonian soil before the colonial invader German.

The promoters of this artwork intend to remind Cameroonians of today and future generations that "without peace, no development is possible. They invite them to promote and preserve peace.
