University officials brainstorm on strike prevention

Officials of the eight state universities in Cameroon have taken part in a seminar in Yaounde to discuss ways of settling issues in their milieu without engaging in a strike action.

While chairing the meeting on 12th November 2014, the Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo called on the lecturers to exercise patience especially as they await the payment of their research grants for the third trimester.

Participants at the roundtable revealed the need to establish a permanent platform of dialogue to prevent unnecessary crises on the university campuses. One of the participants noted that most of the problems lecturers encounter could be solved through dialogue.

The meeting therefore aimed at encouraging lecturers and university administrators to engage in dialogue and see it as a means to a peaceful end and not a weakness.
