Urban transporters express bliss over new transport regulation

More 100 representatives of urban transporters have expressed their gratitude to the Head of State’s raising decision authorising them to extending their services beyond their registration zones.

They handed over their letter of appreciation to the Ministry of Transport on November 26th, 2014 during a meeting in Yaounde.

The secretary General of the Cameroon Trade Union Transporters revealed that the regulations have also subsidised the training of drivers, led to the increase in taxi fair, and has reduced police harassment on roads.

With the new legislation, township taxis can go to the outskirts of the city centre without prior authorisation. It also allows drivers to fix prices for such long trips through negotiation with the passengers.

The latest decision comes after that increasing taxi far by 50 CFA francs in June 2014. The move according to drivers will not only help them to make ends meet but contribute in expanding the towns.
