Ongoing preparations in the host institution's campus near completion.
The 17th edition of the Cameroon University Games will start in May this year at the University of Douala situated in the Ange Raphael neighbourhood. An exact date for the games will be announced in the days ahead as work on campus rounds up.
Universities numbering over 20 from all parts of the country are coming for the games with about 8 State and 12 private universities and thousands of athletes. Events for completion include handball, tennis, football, basketball, table-tennis, volleyball, and athletics, among others.
Ahead of the games, the Regional Supervisory Committee for this 17th edition set up and headed by Governor Joseph Beti Assomo held its first preparatory session at the Banquet Hall of the Littoral Governor's Office in Douala on Tuesday. According to Arrêté N°009/AR/C/SG/DAESC signed by the Governor, the 10 Commissions have been charged to begin work immediately and submit reports to the Regional Committee on April 10, 2014. They include general supervision, infrastructure, lodging, food, transport, health coverage, media coverage, protocol, finance and security, as well as local commissions set up at the host university all to ensure smooth running of the games. University Rector Dieudonné Oyono assessed that most of the ground work is complete but for some gloss over.
