Victims of flooding in far North refuse to be resettled

Dozens of victims of flood currently registered in the region of the Extreme – Northern Cameroon, refused to occupy sites of resettlement by the Government as a result of the fact that they are uncertain about their future.

Mainly in Mayo Danay, where the protection on the Logone river dike gave way since September 19 following the rising waters, the people say they still have in memory the disastrous management of the multifaceted support to them dedicated during recent floods.

According to the Mayor of the Borough of Kai - Kai, Marcel Hodokai, reached on telephone by APA, "populations of the area, still having fresh in their memory what they endured a few months ago, are no more ready to go suffer in the resettlement camps.

The balance sheet prepared by this Department thus reported a breach on the dike about 60 meters, completely submerged or washed away crops and houses and left close to 250 households homeless.

Apart from lots of drugs, food and equipment of sleeping offered by the head of State, Paul Biya, military engineering, which had already done reconstruction work last year proved to be poor by the authorities, is working to plug the gaps created by the waters in a fury with the help of volunteers.

At the same time, we learn, a firm was appointed to finalise the studies preceding the procurement for the reconstruction of the dam of the Logone River.
