Facing the press yesterday August 5 in Garoua, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces made an assessment of his stay in the North before returning to Yaounde.
Sent to the far North by the President of the Republic, the Chief of staff of the armed forces, Brigadier-General Claude Meka landed Friday in Garoua with his baton of command.
The gravity of the situation in the far North forced Paul Biya’s emissary to get directly to work.
Before his visit of the far North, Claude Meka held a series of meetings with the Commander of the 3rd joint military region, the Commander of the 3rd police region and commanders of legions.
These meetings aided the Chief of staff of the armed forces to assess the determination of the Cameroonian troops at the front and the strength of the rebels.
Under the leadership of Brigadier Ebaka Hyppolite of the RMIA3 and of the Colonel Essoh Jules-César of the 3rd region's gendarmerie, the Chief of staff of the armed forces was able to visit border areas which are frequently attacked by the suspected terrorists of Boko Haram.
"Our men have been mobilized. In the future, we'll see what they are capable of", said Claude Meka after visiting Kolofata.
Regarding the family of the Deputy Prime Minister Amadou Ali, taken hostage on the eve of the feast of Ramadan, the General announced to the press that "at the moment we (the army) have no specific information about the hostages, but we continue the search”.
The wife of Amadou Ali, his guard, and Lamido, Mayor of Kolofata are still being held by their abductors who still did not make any demands.
