We will work to improve livelihood of our people, with support from partners -Mayor Alou Council

The Lord Mayor of Alou Council, Dr. Ntemgwa Paul Sixtus says all identified projects in his municipality are tailored to meet the needs of the population and that they will work in close collaboration with their partners like PNDP, FEICOM and others so as to greatly improve upon the peoples’ living standards.

The Mayor made the statement in Buea in an exclusive interview with this reporter during a three day seminar organized by the Ministry of Economy Planning and Regional Development, (MINEPAT).

The seminar that held recently at the Buea Council hall brought together community leaders like Mayors and Members of Parliament amongst others to identify priority projects in their various council areas to possibly validate them to be a guide for government to judiciously prepare a project journal which takes cognizance of grassroot needs.

Talking on his council priority projects, Mayor Ntemgwa said, water and electricity supply, road infrastructure, provision of health facilities, education, agriculture and others are projects that will directly impact on the lives of his people.

When quizzed on what unfolded in their council budgetary session that held January 2014, the Mayor said with the realistic budget of 313 million this year down from over 500 million FCFA last year, selected projects from an updated development plan such as; a giant water project in Alou to engulf some 200 million, rehabilitation of water in Lewoh, farm-to-market road from Fongha to Menji to cost 150 million FCFA, extension of electricity in Mmockbie and Mwangong, construction of classrooms in newly created secondary school in Ndombin, G/S Konghameh, GBPS Mwametah group two, equipping of health centre in Njenawong and many others stand out clearly as proof that the councilors and executives are out to serve the people diligently in other to improve enormously upon their living standards.

Talking to The Star on strategies they will use to meet the set objectives, the Mayor said effective supervision and follow-up of projects, accountability and honesty in the collection and management of council revenue would be inevitable, especially as the recent Prime Ministerial decree has created projects follow-up committees at the level of councils headed by the Mayors.

While ending his chat with this reporter, Mayor Ntemgwa Paul said in maximum collaboration with their partners like PNDP, FEICOM and those they intend to create abroad through training programmes, they are optimistic on the accomplishment of all objectives geared towards bettering the lives of people living within Alou Council area.
