The question on the whereabouts of Senator Nfon V. E Mukete’s official bodyguard is wagging on many lips in Kumba.
It was suggested that the state might have withdrawn the Senator’s bodyguard in reaction to his recent outburst over Anglophone marginalisation.
A barrister who spoke on condition of anonymity said it is Nfon Mukete’s constitutional right as the eldest member of Senate to have an official bodyguard from the government.
The barrister said Nfon Mukete by dint of his age remains an honorary president of Cameroon's Upper House of Parliament and has every right to enjoy state security.
The lawyer argues that if other bureau members such as Questors are enjoying the services of bodyguards, then Nfon Mukete too should have one.
In the early days of his appointment as Senator, a bodyguard was assigned to the traditional ruler of the Bafaws.
During most of his visits to his native Kumba, Nfon Mukete was always seen with an official bodyguard. However, in the last quarter of 2015, the absence of the bodyguard became obvious.
It is believed that the regime might have been piqued by comments from the CPDM Central Committee member.
Meanwhile, Nfon Mukete was visibly absent at the Unity Palace in Yaounde to offer President Biya New Year wishes.
The Senator's invitation card reportedly reached him at his Kumba palace around 10 a.m on the day of the event proper.
A retired civil servant told The Post that the Biya regime has a way of dealing with people at different levels.
He said some people start losing their cooks, cleaners and other staff before knowing that something is wrong somewhere.
