Women's Day feast turns violent for some women

Some women are receiving treatment for violent wounds sustained from fighting with their peers after women's day excesses.

Festivities marking the 31st edition of the International women’s day were colourful especially the grand match past staged at the May 20th Boulevard. Women from various social, professional groups showed the world how much the Cameroonian woman has been emancipated. After the match past, feasting went into high gear resulting in excesses and accidents.

The electricity outage in Yaoundé seems to have provoked more accidents and unforeseen circumstances instead of pushing some women to go home early.

The number of women in hospitals from accidents and attacks in the aftermath of the feast has kept emergency staff in most hospitals in the nation’s capital more busy than usual.

Some women attack their peers with sharp objects, shoes and stones because they went feasting with their husbands. Others expose nudity in public after taking much alcohol, scenes which the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family has been sensitising women against over the years.
Photographs and videos showing these weaknesses and bloody attacks spread like wildfire on social media.

The disturbing situation raises the question if some women really understand the importance of women’s day.
