The Yaounde I Council covering about 5,552 hectares with more than 300,000 inhabitants, now has a development plan for its 37 neighbourhoods and villages. The plan was presented during a ceremony in Yaounde on June 7, 2013 in the presence of the Subdivisional Officer
for Yaounde I, Jean-Paul Tsanga Foe and the Mayor, Emile Andze Andze.
The plan drawn up with the assistance of consultancy firm, ASSOAL, lays emphasis on participatory development and synergy between the council authorities, partners and local population. Its ultimate goal is to improve living conditions of the population, ensure transparency and the participation of the population managing public affairs. During the ceremony, the mayor commissioned members of the animation of local development, consultation and follow-up committees that will all ensure the effective implementation and success of the plan. Emile Andze Andze said the development plan will introduce a modification of the council's management methods beginning 2014. He said the plan goes operational in July 2013 with priority given to water and electricity supply.
