Zang Tabi Enthrones 10th Fon, Meta Clan Head

Allegiance to Meta ancestors, incantations, gun-firing, traditional, administrative and religious blessings, song and dance summed up activities at the coronation of Tabi Teghencha as the 10th Fon of Zang Tabi village and the Clan Head of Meta in Mbengwi Central Sub-division, in the Momo Division of North West Region on December 22, 2012.

It was a day for the Meta Clan with the representative of the North West Governor, Nji Joseph in the chair when elite, friends and relatives filed out to celebrate the man enthroned as the custodian of Zang Tabi customs and traditions. Among the lot were a delegation of the North West Fons Union (NOWEFU) led by HRH Teche Njei, MPs, a college of Church Ministers, Ben, Wally and Akere Muna etc.

The new 35 year old traditional leader of Zang Tabi takes credit as the Clan Head of over 14,000 Meta people settled in some 31 villages. The coronation event was also a rare moment to remember Fon Teghencha J.A, the late Meta Clan Head and Fon who reigned over Zang Tabi village for 66 years before 'disappearing' in 2011. His reign is on most lips in the clan as a father who emerged with lessons in humility and stood by God for guidance in leadership.

He is also credited for keeping Zang Tabi together as a united and peaceful area in the clan. It is on record that Fon Teghencha J.A was a front-liner in the advocacy for the rights of widows and was later saluted for the campaign against excesses during funerals or "cry dies." He is remembered for effectively dropping the number of days set aside by Zang Tabi traditions to mourn loved ones from 14 to barely three.

It was against this backdrop that his successor, Fon Tabi Teghencha X was enthroned with the inspiration to rise to expectation as the auxiliary of the administration with a charge to standby by state institutions, promote the identity, customs and traditions of Zang Tabi, ensure proper hygiene and sanitation of the village, promote development initiatives and encourage good governance practices for the progress and prosperity of Zang Tabi and their sons and daughters. Zang Tabi is also the home of illustrious sons and daughters like Mbarika George, Charles Toh Ndang, Dr Emmanuel Awazi, Ardo Hassan, Mbanwi Andrew, Timothy Musoro, etc. History traces the story of Zang Tabi back to their first Fon, HRH Teghencha through successors like Tebi, Zi Azoh, Tebi Teng, Tebi Ndang, Nji Nang, Tebi Taye, Isaac Tacho, Jacob Agwo Tabi to Tabi Teghencha X.
