To archive records of music especially of the ancient glories of the country, a German project emerged in June 2012 and ended January 20 with scanning of over 2000 audio tapes and 10,000 titles.
This partnership signed between the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cameroon and the Crtv aims at the final scanning of discs and audio tapes of the archives of the Cameroonian national television (Crtv - radio).
These archives of the Crtv radio, based on the cell press of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cameroon, contained "among other treasures of the Cameroonian music for many decades, now threatened with extinction.
The project which is spread out over a period of more than three years has benefited from the technical cooperation of the University of Bayreuth in Germany ". Thus, more than 2000 of these bands sound and 10,000 titles, unpublished most, covering the period of 1960 and the mid-1980s have been scanned and saved for posterity.
This safeguarding of the Cameroonian music project was coordinated for the University of Bayreuth by Prof. Wolfgang Bender, at the Bayreuth IWALEWA-Haus music Ethnologist. Launched as a German project, this initiative aims at safeguarding the local cultural heritage.
No marketing of this music is envisaged in the project. Nevertheless, the Cameroonian public may discover and listen for free this Cameroonian music.
