Associations with a total of 2,400 rice farmers in Cameroon have received 60 tonnes of improved rainfed and irrigated adaptation rice seeds on August 28, 2014 in Yaounde.
This prior seeds distribution multiplied by 36 groups of producers in the Centre and West regions are the result of a partnership between the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD), the Japanese government and AfriaRice.
According to sources these seeds were selected by producers in different ecological zones of the country and multiplied.
They should theoretically help improve national rice production, which barely reaches 100,000 tonnes per year, out of an estimated 300,000 tonnes more than demands.
