Portability enables a subscriber to keep his number in the event of a change of operator. It applies between the various operators of mobile telephony with operators of the fixed telephone as the Camtel in Cameroon.
This will leave the possibility for the consumer to change their operator while keeping the same number. Cameroon currently has three mobile operators and one for the landline.
Executive Director (ART), Jean-Louis Beh Mengue telecommunications regulatory agency, made public on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, a call for tenders for the recruitment of a claimant "for logistical support of ART in the implementation of a communication campaign on the portability of numbers in Cameroon. The deadline for bids is October 03 and the successful claimant will have two months to run the campaign.
This notice of tender comes in the wake of the launch of the activities of the third mobile operator in Cameroon. Nexttel indeed started on 12 September.
Now, consumers have the opportunity to choose their network between the Cameroon subsidiary of the Vietnamese operator Viettel, MTN Cameroon and Orange.
The portability of numbers in Cameroon intends ART is a new vocabulary for the majority of subscribers, who are still forced to change phone numbers when they change operator.
