The British investment fund Actis, which took over all the assets of the American AES Corp. in the electricity sector in Cameroon, proposed to Jean David Bile, who is now officially former CEO of AES Sonel the public electricity service in the country, to occupy the position of president of Actis Cameroon Holding, a company that will manage the interests of Actis in the country.
The revelation was made August 19, in Douala, by the Minister of Energy and Water, Basile Atangana Kouna, at the appointment ceremony of the new CEO of AES Sonel, Joel Nana Kontchou.
66 year-old engineer holding a doctorate degree in economics, Jean David Bile was appointed at the head of AES Sonel in February 2004, three years after the privatization of the former “Sonel”, and its takeover by the American company AES Corp.
Qualified to head AES Group, Jean David Bile, who has spent a total of 37 years in this business, including 10 years as CEO, has helped build the company, increasing its production capacity, from 700 to more than 1,000 MW in only 4 years, way above forecasts issued by the contract signed in 2001, according to sources.
While he held the position of CEO of AES Sonel, this native of the Littoral Region also chaired the AES African Power (APCO) holding, overseeing the activities of the AES group in Africa.
It is the same position that Actis offered him, to manage its funds for its activities in Cameroon, while he remains an administrator of AES Sonel, which would, change its name in the coming weeks.
