Awae pineapple processing factory goes operational

Awae, located 15 kilometers from Yaoundé the capital of Cameroon will host a cooperative of young people who embarked on the industrial cultivation of pineapple with the support of government in the context of the free program to build a factory to process its pineapple production.

On site at Awae, a vast area of 100 hectares is already serviced to date for the cultivation of pineapple. The operation according to the program coordinator Agropoles Adrian Ngo'o Bitomo, is the work of Awae pineapple producers cooperative society.

Jean Baptiste Kouam, president of the cooperative society comprising a dozen of young producers, say with pride that "everything you see here is only a small part of the project that we are trying to achieve here" and continued "regarding the challenges of production, now we are at 16,000 tonnes, but the specifications provides for 26,000 tonnes.

In three months, we will cover our forecasts. We already have a first buyer who is an exporter. transformation, we are at the stage of the construction of the plant to produce fruit juice on-site."

The field includes dormitories for workers, or a hundred individuals. One of them, Jean Jacques, told us that "it does not bother me to enter in agriculture, since I found my account in this farm. I have no problem with the atmosphere of the city.

The president of the cooperative Jean Baptiste Kouam is confident about their investment, supported from the beginning by the State through the free program; and already thinking of the crop diversification to crops like maize and plantain alongside the pineapple.
