Over 500 Farmers of Bamenda I Subdivision received fertilisers, animal feed, wheel-barrows, hoes, cutlasses, sprayers, insecticides and a host of other farm inputs as prizes for producing and exhibiting the best of their harvest during the Mini-Agro-pastoral Show.
The Mini-Agro-pastoral Show took place on December 11 at the Bamenda I Market Up-Station.
While encouraging the farmers to work harder so as to win more prizes at the Regional and National levels, the Mayor of Bamenda I, Caroline Bongwa, said the Agro-Economic Forum is a school for the farmers to gain knowledge as they exchange ideas.
She said the prizes they received should act as encouragement and spur them to produce more quality agricultural output for the wellbeing of their families and the country.
Farmers were urged to be close to agriculture and livestock technicians if they want to improve on their yields. She recalled that the recent workshop that was organised by the Council on the cultivation of Upland rice, was meant to increase the production of rice within Mezam so that rice can be added to other crops produced in Bamendanknwe.
Mayor Bongwa singled out the Divisional Delegate of Agriculture for Mezam for donating eight bags of fertilisers to farmers. The 2014 Mini-Agric-Show in Bamenda I gulped FCFA 2.3 million in prizes and logistics.
