Banking sector records operating capital of over 3,330bn CFA

Thirteen operational banks in Cameroon mobilized more than 3,330 billion CFAF last year as resources, Ministry of Finance revealed.

This slightly increased as compared to that of last year, where the resources mobilised revolved around 3 300 billion CFA francs.

During the same period, the thirteen banks contributed to the financing of the national economy with 2580 billion CFA francs, most of these funds having been mobilised on behalf of big businesses.

However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which constitute the base of the economy of the country with nearly 95 per cent of the economic fabric, had barely 500 billion CFA as funding.
