Banks bemoan difficulties in loan repayment

Banks operating in Cameroon recently complained about the difficulties of repayment of loans granted to users who for various reasons find it difficult in repaying the loan.

According to the banks, the average rate of non-payment is 25 percent per year, which is huge and makes it difficult for the banks to play their usual roles.

The General Manager of the Union Bank of Africa (UBA) in Cameroon, Georges Wega, revealed that 25 percent of loans are in doubt for banks in Cameroon, '' it means that if a bank has 100 credits in one year, 25 credits may not be repaid.'' he explained.

Situations like this make banks be cautious vis- à-vis traders who accuse commercial banks to limit access to credit.

Also, it is forbidden for banks to grant credit in an amount equivalent to 15 percent of the equity of the bank.
