The Cameroon cotton development corporation and the Brazilian consortium, IBSS international agronomy have signed an agreement to set up a cocoa plant nursery in Cameroon.
According to the agreement, some 10 million young Cocoa plants will be nursed per year. The project shall generate some 200 jobs in the Cocoa Sector.
The agreement was sign on 2nd September 2014 between the General Manager of the Cameroon Cotton Development Corporation, Jerome Mvondo and Gilberto Grando of the Brazilian Consortium IBSS International Agronomy in Yaounde.
The partnership has been created to meet the demand for young Cocoa plants which currently is estimated at 40 Million while only five million are supplied to farmers.
According to predictions, the partnership shall boost the cocoa land surface to 8000 hectares per year.
By the time the project is materialised, 20,000 direct and 60,000 indirect jobs shall be created nationwide.
