According to the last statistical report by the Cameroon Aeronautics Authority (CCAA), the highest flyer in Cameroon’s skies in 2013 was Air France (22%), once again.
The French airline leader was followed by Brussels Airlines (14%) and Cameroon Airlines Corporation (CamairCo) which represented 11% of air traffic. However, in terms of activity growth relative to 2012, Brussels Airlines was the most dynamic in 2013.
According to the CCAA, “growth in air travel has been very unevenly distributed among European carriers (Air France, Brussels Airlines) that have been increasing the frequency of their flights over the years. However, one notes a growth differential that shows a negative for the French airline, unlike its Belgian counterpart whose activities have increased by 18%”.
On the intra-African market in 2013, the CCAA highlights that, “except for Asky Airlines (+10%) and Ceiba International (+47%) that distinguish themselves both in terms of increased transfers and also high passenger volumes, almost all African carriers experienced a decline between 2012 and 2013: Kenya Airways (-17%), Royal Air Maroc (-24%), Senegal Airlines (-25%), South Africa Airways (-9%).”
This varying performance among airlines in Cameroon in 2013 impacted the Cameroon airports where travel volume had increased by 10% between 2012 and 2013. However, the CCAA reveals that “this increased volume continues to be very uneven among the airports.
Douala Airport covers 43% of domestic travel and 72% of international travel. On the other side, Yaoundé-Nsimalen handled 37% of domestic travel and 27% of international travel.”
