CMR intensifies optic fiber terminal construction

The Cameroonian Government announced the intensification of the operation of the loop optic fiber around the country, including in urban centres to improve the instruments of communication for its citizens.

After the capital, Yaoundé and Douala, the economic metropolis, already connected to this technology, will continue with the construction of optical fibre loops in the cities of Buea and Limbe (southwest) and Maroua (Extreme-Nord).

To this end, the Government has launched a tender inviting bidders to submit their file, before the stage counting that starts next week and that will be cordoned off by the choice of one or several operators.

Financed by the special fund of telecommunications, the construction of these new optical loops work will start before the end of this year, instructed the Ministry of posts and Telecommunications.

This work will allow the extension of optical fiber network of the country of 49.4 Km in the city of Maroua, 35.2 Km in Limbe and 29.1 in Buea, approximately 104 Km of optical fibre.

Cameroon currently has 6000 Km of optical fiber, and plans to reach a length of 10 000 to 20 000 Km over the long term.
