Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam, Minister Post and Telecommunications reconsider the awaited repercussions of the exploitation of the WACS.
According to the Minister, WACS cable can transport up to 40 gigabits. With the effects of the economy of scale which will be followed from there, the tariffs of communications will undergo an appreciable fall.
At the beginning, Cameroon had one Sat-3 in Douala, on instructions of the hierarchy; Cameroon acquired a second in Limbe with a capacity ten times larger.
This point of alluvial deposit will be able to also contribute to the substantial improvement of the rate of penetration of Internet in Cameroon in particular, thanks to gravitational price quotation of the international capacities of the underwater cables, in addition to one harmonious development of the networks with optical fibre on the whole of the own territory.
The minister equally acknowledged the fact that Cameroonians impatiently await the fall of the costs of the communications. “These prices will drop very soon” he noted.
With the infrastructure, Cameroonians must have an access to high flow of Internet.
It will also be necessary to fix the tariffs of sale of the capacities directed towards the costs, in order to support a generalized access and to lower cost with the Internet.
These operators, in their turn, will be able thanks to competition to play a role in managing the costs of the communications and will open to their subscribers a range of services already in operation.
