Cameroon and Brazil to be connected by fibre optic cable

Negations are strong enough for Cameroon to be the first African country to have a connection by submarine cable with South America according the Director General of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL).

David Nkotto Arises specifically reveals that CAMTEL and the Cameroonian government is working for a 5900 km cable of optical fibre to run from Kribi (in the south, Ndlr ) to Fortaleza in Brazil.

The new submarine cable will be announced by CAMTEL as the fourth to land in Cameroon after WACS made by a consortium involving MTN whose "operation was just waiting for the green light from the government," according to DG CAMTEL.

Officially, Cameroon currently has a network of 6,000 km of optical fibre, but the quality and capacity of the advanced infrastructure does not always escape criticism from operators in the telecom sector.
