The Directorate of Cameroon’s Customs and Excise department said yesterday it has collected CFA 175.7 billion in the first quarter of 2016.

Despite the 4 percent increase compared with the same period last year, this showing is below the CFA 187 billion targeted windfall set by the Directorate for the first quarter.

The customs administration attributed this to the decrease in imports, especially those providing high-revenue as vehicles or raw materials for brewing industries which dropped by about 30 percent in the first quarter of 2016.

Cameroon’s customs revenue forecasts for the current fiscal year (2016) are CFA 750 billion.
