Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) has signed a 10-year agreement with mobile operator MTN Cameroon for the provision of dark fibre capacity on Camtels’ national fibre optic backbone.
In a televised interview on CRTV, Camtel general manager David Nkoto Emane explained that sharing a common transmission infrastrucure will reduce running costs and prices.
Camtel has signed a similar deal with Cameroon’s third mobile operator, Viettel, which is due to launch service soon.
Nkoto Emane said the operator also expects to sign a network capacity agreement with mobile operator Orange Cameroon in the coming days and another with broadcaster CRTV within the framework of the switch from analogue to digital TV, scheduled for 15 July 2015.
