Coffee : 2015-2016 season launched in Cameroon

Farmers of coffee are upbeat with the announced increase of coffee prices in the world Market.

The Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana launched the 2015 - 2016 National coffee season of Cameroon in Ngoulmedouka in the East region of the country.

The official launching ceremony which took place in one of the coffee producing of Cameroon serve as an occasion for the Minister to announce government's ambitions to support farmers in boosting coffee production which is one of Cameroon's major export products.

Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana said the government has taken measures to put an end to the over a dozen years of stagnation in the coffee sector which as resulted in a considerable drop in production.

Farmers have been encouraged to give proper care to their farms if they hope to benefit from the increase in the prices on coffee in the world market.

The call is coming at a time when the national production of coffee has reduced by 27 percent within the last season. Coffee production went down to 23,865 tons of coffee produced far below the 32,808 tonnes produced during the previous seasons.

The fall in production notwithstanding exports of coffee witnessed a slight increase of 8.24% during the 2014 - 2015 coffee season prompted by the Nationwide campaign organised by the Inter-Professional Cocoa and Coffee board.
