Four new plants built to increase palm oil production

20,000 additional tonnes of palm oil is expected to be produced this season in Sombo in the Centre Region, Bakingili and Mamfe in the South West and in the North Teze west.

This was announced during a recent visit of the four new industrial oil mills, with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes each, built in these production areas.

These industrial units have been established under the project to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the palm oil sector, set up by the Cameroonian government with the technical support from FAO and Onudi.

This program, which ends in late 2014, according to its Coordinator Mbi Oruh Michael, will be taken over by the Cameroonian government, which will now fully finance it.

This, we learn, with a view to further boost the palm oil industry in the country, whose domestic production is officially estimated at 270,000 tonnes, with a request that usually reaches 385,000 tonnes.

The additional 20,000 tonnes that will come from the four new units mentioned above will help to gradually reduce the deficit that major local producers such as Socapalm often cover by imports.
