Four new plants installed to boost palm oil production

Cameroonian government is planning to install four new plants with technical support from FAO and UNIDO to increase the production of palm oil in the country by 20,000 tonnes.

This palm oil will be produced in the Cameroonian localities of Sombo, in the Centre of Bakingili and Mamfe region, in the Southwestern area of Teze in the Northwest of the country.

These industrial units were established under the project of improving the productivity and the competitiveness of the palm oil sector. This program which ends 2014, according to its Coordinator, Mbi Oruh Michael, will be taken over by the Cameroonian Government, which will now fully fund it.

This is to continue to boost oil palm industry in the country, whose domestic production is officially estimated at 270,000 tonnes, for a request which reached generally 385,000 tonnes. The 20,000 tonnes that will come from the four new units will help to gradually reduce the deficit that major local producers such as the Socapalm often fill with imports.
