Georges Wega officially becomes DGA at Société Générale

The former CEO of UBA Cameroon, Georges Wega, has officially joined the local branch of Société Générale as Deputy Director General.

The local subsidiary of the French banking group made the announcement in a statement yesterday, which said: "It will complement the management team which will now consist of two Deputy Directors and Louis Banga Ntolo will continue to oversee the specific place of Yaoundé and the financial activities of the bank. Georges Wega, based in Douala, will assume control of the operation.”

The statement also indicated that the new DGA will be proposed at the September Board of Directors and to the monetary authorities.

The industrial engineer graduated from the University of Quebec, Canada, former CEO of UBA Cameroon in late June 2014, was recruited while employees of the French bank were on strike, over the violation of their workers rights by the CEO of Société Générale Jean Philippe Guillaume.

Georges Wega worked for the financial branch of General Electric in Brussels and Amsterdam, Barclays Bank in London and then for UBA, the Nigerian banking group, where he was Chief Administrator of the Cameroon subsidiary for four years before joining the General.
