Gov't saves over 30 billion on Chad-Cmr pipeline project

The State has saved nearly 30 billion CFAF on the Chad-Cameroon Pipeline project in Lom Pangar dam, under construction in the East of Cameroon.

"The work involved the installation of two new sections of 30 inches (76.2 cm) diameter pipeline and 13.3 Km long, suitable for crossings of water bodies and implemented in parallel to the existing pipeline.

These new sections have been connected to the existing pipeline", explains the Cameroon Oil Transportation company (Cotco). The Lom Pangar dam affects the pipeline 'on a cumulative total length of about 26 Km.

The construction which lasted 18 months, was launched by Cameroon who had to release 49 billion CFA for the entire project. At the end of the work, costs were estimated at about 41.7 billion CFAF. Cotco, which operates the Chad-Cameroon pipeline, committed to repay 21.9 billion of this amount.

This agreement was reached on 13th November during a ceremony at the Hotel Hilton in Yaoundé. The cheque was presented by the Director General of Cotco, Christian Lenoble to the Finance Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey.
