Limbe petroleum pipeline project to start soon

The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna recently chaired an evaluation meeting that will see the construction of a pipeline from Limbe to Yaounde.

The pipeline to transmit petroleum products between the cities of Limbe, Douala, Edea and Yaounde is the outcome of the first evaluation meeting of the pipeline project that took place this Monday March 30, 2015 in Yaounde.

The Minister remarked that failures and delays in the transportation of petroleum products between the oil refinery company, SONARA in Limbe to the petroleum depot in Douala since February 2015 has cost SONARA a loss of FCFA 6 billion.

The General Manager of the Chinese petroleum pipeline bureau and a member of the evaluation team said the transportation process always take a lot time and these delays contribute adversely to the processing and distribution of petroleum products in the country.

Partners in the meeting indicated that the project is expected to radically improve access to petroleum on the national network and consequently reduce cost incurred in transportation.

According to stakeholders, the pipeline project is cost effective and will help save time and cut cost.
