Producers and vendors of livestock, farm and manufactured products received subsidies for the sales which took place on Friday and Saturday.
Families in Nkongsamba, chief town of the Moungo Division in the Littoral, over the week-end secured an abundance of basic commodities for their family pantry. The Consumer Product Procurement Regulatory Authority (MIRAP) for the first time organised cheap sales of foodstuffs and basic products in the Moungo during which farmers and vendors brought goods at a makeshift open-air market at Ekol-Mbeng.
Producers of plantain, cattle and poultry raisers, as well as meat sellers, importers and producers of manufactured basic products retailed rice, vegetable oils, salt, soap, flour, etc, at wholesale and farm gate prices. The reduced prices, especially of manufactured commodities gave a significant boost to turn out of the agricultural community. A good many people of Nkongsamba and inhabitants of the surrounding Moungo shopped through and benefitted from the government-run programme aim to reach consumers with basic commodities at cheap and affordable prices in relation to normal market prices.
MIRAP's Standard Periodic Market which spanned two days had little significance to the average Nkongsamba city dweller, Ngono Marcus, who complains of having a little purchasing power to secure more in order to live through hikes that characterises the approaching end-of-year feasts. Nevertheless, Head of Prospective and Communication Department, Lobe Mpoh Constant, sounded the good news that MIRAP will again run the price-reduction sales on December 28-29 this year to enable all families have meals on their table for start-of-year festivity for the population of Moungo.
The importance of Standard Periodic Market is to bring to one spot farm and manufactured products subsidised to defray cost for the final consumer. Mostly, the institution subsidises transportation from farms to the market.
A partnership agreement signed by MIRAP Administrator Bamazok Ntol Cyprien and Mayor Essame Elise Henriette of Nkongsamba III Council on behalf of their respective institutions will ensure that the arrangement is carried out to the mutual benefit of both parties and the population.
