The Cameroon subsidiary of MTN, South African telecoms operator, has significantly increased its offer for the renewal of licence to 3G and 4G technology, revealed the local press.
Thus, the offer from the operator increased from 35 billion Cfa francs to 65 billion francs Cfa, while the Cameroonian Government, advised in the negotiations by the Americano-Cameroonian firm Maas Telecom, has set the bar at 75 billion Cfa francs.
Furthermore, while the Cameroonian State requires a budget of 75 billion Cfa francs for a valid licence for a period of 10 years, MTN Cameroon wished to extend this period to 13 years, against its envelope of 65 billion Cfa francs.
For now, according to the same sources, the Cameroonian Government is yet to rule on this new offer from MTN, but will soon do it, insofar as the licence currently operated by MTN Cameroon arrives at expiration February 15.
Meanwhile, Orange Cameroon, who also wished to negotiate the renewal of its licence with 3G and 4G, camped on its initial offer of 40 billion Cfa francs, against a 75 billion FCfa required by the Cameroonian Government.
