MTN Cameroon recognized as an Employer of choice

MTN Cameroon, leader of the Cameroonian telecommunications market in Cameroon, announces that it has received a Gold accreditation by the prestigious British Institution, “Investors In People (IiP)”, in recognition of its excellent people management practices. This, follows a rigorous assessment that ran from 19 to 30 January 2015.

MTN Cameroon is the first and only company in Cameroon to receive the highest accolade in people management practices from an independent and internationally-recognized body. It is also the only operation within the MTN Group to receive the Gold accreditation till date.

“Investors In People” is an institution created in 1991 by the British Government to assist organizations to get the best out of their employees by notably evaluating and reinforcing their people management practices.

Its prestigious accreditation is recognized the world over. 15,000 organizations in 75 countries have already obtained it. MTN Cameroon is the first (and only) Company in Cameroon till date to receive the highest accolade in people management practices.

It is also the first operation within the MTN Group to receive the Gold accreditation from “Investors In People” MTN Group Chief Human Resources and Corporate Affairs Officer, Paul Norman, said the Group is proud of this outstanding achievement by MTN Cameroon.

“IiP Gold accreditation is the top standard which an organisation can achieve for its people management practices and as an organisation we are very proud of this accomplishment.”

MTN Cameroon CEO, Karl Toriola, on his part said, “The strength of every leading organisation is its human capital. MTN Cameroon is no exception. We value local talent, and have arguably implemented the most successful policy of nationalisation and development of our people.”

As an IiP-accredited organization, Cameroon’s telecommunications market leader is further positioned as an employer of choice and recognized for strides in developing local talent into world-class executives as well as its people management policies and practices which makes it truly a great place to work.

MTN Cameroon has put in place an ambitious policy of nationalization and development of local talent. Out of close to 1,000 employees, only 3 are expatriates, with the rest of its staff being Cameroonians who for the most part are graduates from Cameroonian institutions.

Young Cameroonians recruited by the company find an environment that seeks to be empowered to express their talent and grow. Some of them have climbed the corporate ladder within the MTN Group and have been called upon to occupy positions of authority in other operations such as Congo, Ivory Coast, Benin, Guinea, Iran, and Group headquarters in South Africa.

MTN was initially accredited in 2013 like an “Investor In People” (employer of choice). The attainment of higher accreditation two years afterwards testifies, according to Ian Arbuckle, Investors in People Assessor, “that the organization is committed to continuous improvement of its practices”.
