Orange and MTN, the duopoly that controlled the market for mobile telephony in Cameroon in 2013, achieved cumulative revenue estimated at 500 billion CFA francs, statistics revealed by the Cameroon Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL).
According to the same source, the sector of mobile telephony in the country has created 6000 direct jobs and 300,000 indirect jobs and 617 billion CFA francs of taxes paid to the Cameroonian public treasury in the last 5 years.
Statistics that are expected to experience a quantum leap in the year 2015, with the arrival on the market since September 18 of a third mobile operator, Viettel Cameroon which operates under the brand Nexttel, and the issuance, last Sept. 26, of the fourth mobile license in the country to the public telecom operator, Camtel.
